Chris Wallwork

Director and Senior Counsellor

“You don’t have to stay where you are. Change begins with one conversation.”

Hi, I’m Chris — a calm, friendly and down-to-earth counsellor with over 11 years’ experience and more than 5,000 hours of working alongside people through anxiety, stress, overwhelm, loss, relationship difficulties and life’s many turning points.

Most people come to me because something feels too heavy to carry alone, or because they’ve reached a point where they know something needs to change. My role is to offer a steady, confidential space where you can talk openly, feel heard, and work things through at a pace that feels right for you.

My approach is integrative and person-led. That means I don’t push you in a direction you’re not ready for, and I don’t apply one single model of therapy to everyone. Instead, I draw on a blend of person-centred counselling, trauma-informed practice, attachment understanding and CBT-informed tools to help you make sense of what’s happening and find your footing again.

I’m registered with both the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC).

Before becoming a counsellor, I worked for many years in roles that focused on people, communication, behaviour and support. That background helps me understand stress, relationships, work pressures, confidence and identity from a practical, real-world perspective as well as a therapeutic one.

People often tell me they value the sense of safety, steadiness and clarity they feel in sessions. You don’t need to arrive with the “right words” or have everything figured out — we can start exactly where you are.

If you’re feeling anxious, stuck, overwhelmed or simply not yourself, you’re welcome to get in touch. We can take things one step at a time and see whether working together feels like the right fit for you.

Why I became a counsellor

I began training as a counsellor in 2011 following a decade of experience working with individuals and teams in a behavioural consulting environment.

I have worked with a variety of people during my consultancy and counselling careers, from senior managers and business owners to retired folk and teenagers, from ex-offenders to police officers. I enjoy the relational depth that comes from my work, and I have been able to enhance my skills in order to be able to help people on a more emotional level.

Away from work I love family time, walking the south west’s glorious countryside and coastline, and serving in the community.

I work out of our therapy rooms in Wellington and provide face to face, virtual, and telephone counselling. If you’re interested, why not leave a message for me on our answering service 01823 765065, WhatsApp the same number, or email me directly.
